Short Biography: Professor Joachim K. Krauss is Director and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Hannover Medical School, Germany, since 2005. He received his MD degree at the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg, Germany, for his experimental work in neuropharmacology of the basal ganglia. He trained in neurology, and later in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, and general neurosurgery with Professors Mundinger and Seeger in Freiburg. Thereafter, he moved to Houston, Texas, to collaborate with Drs Grossman and Jankovic. He went back to Europe to establish functional neurosurgery in Berne, Switzerland, and in Mannheim, Germany, where he served as Vice Chairman from 1999 to 2005. His clinical routine includes functional neurosurgery, complex spine, skull base, microvascular decompression, neurooncology and hydrocephalus.
Prof. Krauss has been President of the European Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (ESSFN) from 2010 to 2014, and of the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (WSSFN) from 2013 to 2017. He also served as President of the German Academy for Neurosurgery from 2018 to 2019. He is an active member of several international societies, committees and advisory boards. One of his missions is to bridge the gap between Neurosurgery and Neurology why he is also active in the Movement Disorders Society where he served as chair/ co-chair in several tasks forces and working groups: Neurosurgery; Deep Brain Stimulation for Dystonia; Neuromodulation for Gait and Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus.
He has published more than 600 scientific manuscripts and book chapters, and he has edited four books in the field of functional neurosurgery. He introduced pallidal deep brain stimulation for cervical dystonia in 1997, and spinal cord stimulation for orthostatic tremor in 2002. He received several awards including the Oppenheim prize for his work in dystonia. In the past few years he put a particular focus on education and training. He is a member of the ESSFN training committee and chair of the WSSFN training committee.

Short Biography: Born in Kyiv, and educated at Ukrainian State Medical University (1988-1994)
Residency training program in neurosurgery 1994 – 1997 at Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute, Kyiv. Training included research fellowship at the Laboratory of experimental neurosurgerywhere he obtained his PhD in 1999. Dr. Kostiuk assumed his appointment in the Department of Functional Surgery in 1994, and has been on the surgical staff at the Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute since that time.
Fellowship, observership: Georg-August-University in Gottingen (1995), Gayar Bayar University Hospital in Manisa (1997), Hospital na Homolce, Prague, (2000), John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford University (2009), Toronto Western Hospital (2013), Foundation Rothschild Hospital, Paris (2015). Tentative Title: MRI Guided Focused Ultrasound for Tremor - Sydney Experience
Short Biography: Dr Jonker has a combined practice of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery and neurooncology.
His practice includes all aspects of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery (movement disorder surgery, trigeminal neuralgia surgery, cancer pain surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, epilepsy surgery) and brain and pituitary tumour surgery.
He is the principal neurosurgeon for the St Vincent’s General and Private Hospital Movement Disorder Unit.
He is a board member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia and a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Sydney.
With his neurology and neuroradiology collaborators he established the first MRI guided focused ultrasound treatment centre in Australia and has performed well over 100 MRgFUS thalamotomies.

Short Biography: Prof. Juan A. Barcia is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital "Hospital Clínico San Carlos" in Madrid, Spain, and Chair in Neurosurgery at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Board certified in Neurosurgery since 1992, he received his MD in 1987 and PhD in 1996. He has been Associate professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Valencia; Head of Clinical Division, Service of Neurosurgery at the Hospital General Universitario de Valencia; Head of the laboratory of Neural Regeneration and Neural Repair of the Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe in Valencia, and Scientific Director of the Research Foundation at the Hospital General Universitario de Valencia. He received his doctorate from the University of Valencia and completed his residency in neurosurgery at the Hospital Clinico Universitario de Valencia, extending studies of functional neurosurgery at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden, and of epilepsy surgery at the Montreal Neurological Institute in Canada.

Andrey Sitnikov

Short Biography: Dr. Sitnikov was born 26 of August, 1977 in Amursk area (Russia). Completed medical degree in 2001 at Far East Medical University (Khabarovsk, Russia) and subspecialized in neurosurgery at the Sklifosovsky Research Institute in Moscow. From January 2007 works at Federal Centre of Treatment and Rehabilitation of Ministry of Healthcare as a Chief of Neurosurgical Department. In 2009 he got an MD degree with research in microvascular decompression for surgical treatment of hemifacial spasm. In 2015 he registered the Association of Functional Neurosurgeons aiming the close collaborating with international Societies and colleagues. From 2017 the Russian Association of Functional Neurosurgeons recognized as an official branch of WSSFN in Russian Federation. In 2017 Dr. Sitnikov was elected as a Board Director and Continental vice-president of WSSFN during the WSSFN Congress in Berlin.

Short Biography: Michael C. Park, MD, PhD, is a neurosurgeon who works with patients suffering from movement disorders (Parkinson's disease, essential tremor and dystonia), epilepsy, depression and pain. Dr. Park sees patients at the M Health Fairview Clinics and Surgery Center - Minneapolis, Neurosurgery Clinic, and performs his surgeries at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, where he specializes in neuromodulation. He performs numerous treatments, including but not limited to, deep brain stimulation, lesionectomy, amygdalohippocampectomy, response neural stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation, laser ablation, spinal cord stimulation and gamma knife radiosurgery. He is an Associate Professor with the University of Minnesota Medical School's Department of Neurosurgery and he is the Neurosurgery Department's Residency Program Director. He is also the Director of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. From a research standpoint, Dr. Park focuses primarily on neuromodulation (deep brain stimulation) and he is a collaborator, Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator in numerous active, ongoing projects in that field. In addition, he is a Clinical Core Co-Investigator for the U of M’s Udall Center of Excellence for Parkinson's Disease Research.

Short Biography: Bart Nuttin is full professor at KU Leuven Belgium. He is chief of clinic, neurosurgeon, at University Hospitals Leuven. He was born in 1959, is married and has 4 children. He obtained the MD degree at KU Leuven in 1984, and became specialist in neurosurgery in 1992. He defended his PhD thesis (promoter Prof. J. Gybels) in 1996. He trained also in Pretoria, South-Africa (1982), Exeter, England (1986), Köln, Germany (1994) and was visiting lecturer on the neurosurgical service at Children's Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, US in 1994. He is chair of the Task Force on Neurosurgery for Psychiatric Disorders of the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (WSSFN), and has been member of the board of directors of WSSFN, vice-president for Europe WSSFN, treasurer of European Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, president of the Belgian Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, president of the Benelux Neuromodulation Society and member of the Council of the "Europäische Akademie zur Erforschung von Folgen wissenschaftlich-technischer Entwicklungen Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler GmbH" and member of several national and international societies. Josue Avecillas Chasin

Tentative Title: The Role of White Matter Tractography for Lesioning in Functional Neurosurgery: the Importance of White Matter Anatomy
Short Biography: Dr Avecillas-Chasin is assistant professor of the department of neurosurgery at the university of Nebraska medical center. He is a stereotactic and functional neurosurgeon with interest in basal ganglia and white matter anatomy. Currently, his research and clinical practice is mainly focused on personalized neuromodulation therapies using brain mapping techniques to prospectively target symptom-specific networks. Dr Avecillas-Chasin received his medical degree from the university of Guayaquil in Ecuador and his PhD at the universidad complutense de Madrid in Spain. He completed his neurosurgery residency training in Madrid-Spain at the Hospital Clinico San Carlos. After completing his residency training, he completed subspecialized training in neurosurgical oncology and radiosurgery at the Cleveland clinic, and stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at the Vancouver general hospital in Canada and Mount Sinai Health System in New York. Dr Avecillas-Chasin is involved in multiple national and international research collaborations and has received several grants and awards including the “young neurosurgeon award” by the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) in 2016 and the “Stereotactic and functional young neurosurgeon clinical award” by the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) in 2021 for his work on personalized neuromodulation therapies. Dr Avecillas-Chasin has published over 40 peer-review publication including journal articles, book chapters, and other online resources such as the tractography atlas “Subcortical White Matter Pathways Avecillas 2019”. Christopher Honey

Short Biography: Dr. Honey is Professor and Head of the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of British Columbia. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Toronto and his doctoral degree from Oxford University as a Canadian Rhodes Scholar. He completed his Royal College training in neurosurgery in Vancouver in 1995 and became a diplomat of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons in 2000. He has completed an additional year of training at Harvard Medical School and is a Scholar in Surgical Leadership.
His research is focused on the treatment of movement disorders and pain. He headed the world’s first trial of DBS for spasmodic dysphonia and published the results in 2021. He was the first physician to recognize and successfully treat hemi-laryngopharyngeal spasm (HELPS syndrome) in 2014. He discovered and successfully treated the first person in the world with VANCOUVER syndrome in 2019. He has made fundamental changes to the understanding of human pain pathways.
In 2016, Dr. Honey was elected the President of the Canadian Neuromodulation Society (2016-2019). In 2018, Dr. Honey was elected President of the World Neurosurgical Federation for Cranial Nerve Disorders. This group studies conditions such as Trigemnial Neuralgia, Hemifacial Spasm, Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia and the newly described Hemi-Laryngopharyngeal Spasm (HELPS) and has a major interest in Microvascular Decompression (MVD) neurosurgery. Dr. Honey will host the 3rd World Congress of this Society in Vancouver in 2022.

He obtained his neurosurgical training in epilepsy surgery at the Western University in Canada and stereotactic neurosurgery at the London Health Sciences Centre in Canada and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Short Biography: Prof. Dr. med Claudio Pollo is deputy chief physician (Stv. Chefarzt) at the Neurosurgery Department of the University Hospital Bern and head of the stereotactic & functional and epilepsy neurosurgery.
During his training, he concentrated his clinical and research interests on stereotactic, functional and epilepsy neurosurgery under the mentorship of Prof JG Villemure at the Univserity Hospital Lausanne. He also spent one year research fellowship in functional neurosurgery in the department of Prof AL Benabid in Grenoble. In 2003, he obtained a master in biomedical engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne.
The most part of his research projects sustained by peer reviewed national and international grants are focused with a special interest on DBS or EEG modelling as well as development of new technologies, in particular probabilistic imaging- and sensing-based DBS planning and programming using directional DBS systems, for modulating brain function in movement, pain and psychiatric disorders. Frazier Rehabilitation Chair in Neurological Surgery and is the Associate Director of the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center at the University of Louisville. Over the last 27 years, her research has focused on neural plasticity of spinal networks and recovery of function after spinal cord injury. Her more recent studies have shown that people with chronic paralysis can regain the ability to voluntarily move their legs and stand independently while also recovering cardiovascular and bladder function with epidural stimulation. This broadened the scope of the translational research program to include technology development to improve implantable epidural stimulators.
Dr. Harkema leads the KSCIRC translational faculty within the Pediatric NeuroRecovery, Adult NeuroRecovery, and Epidural Stimulation Programs. Over the past decade, these programs have collectively been awarded over $72 million in research dollars with the aim to improve motor, cardiovascular and bladder function, health, and quality of life of adults and children living with paralysis. Short Biography: Joseph Neimat grew up in the Washington DC area. He studied at Dartmouth College and Duke University. Dr. Neimat performed his residency in Neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a fellowship in Neuromodulation surgery at the University of Toronto, with Dr. Lozano, a pioneer in that field. In 2006, he joined the Department of Neurosurgery at Vanderbilt University, where he was Director of Epilepsy and was a founding member of the Institute for Surgery and Engineering. In 2016 Dr. Neimat transitioned to the University of Louisville where he serves as Chairman of Neurological Surgery. His clinical interests include the surgical treatment of movement disorders, the treatment of epilepsy, novel therapies for disorders of mood and behavior, and the multi-modality treatment of complex pain. Dr. Neimat additionally runs a collaborative research lab exploring cognitive and emotional processing in cortical and subcortical structures. Short Biography: Konstantin Slavin, MD, FAANS is Professor, Chief of Section and Fellowship Director for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
Dr. Slavin graduated from medical school in Baku, Azerbaijan in the Soviet Union and completed his neurosurgery residency in Moscow. He then completed his second neurosurgery residency at UIC and a fellowship in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, OR.

Short Biography: His interest in neurosciences started early during first year of med school in University of São Paulo (USP) driving him into a 5-year-experience in the neurophysiology lab under the supervision Prof. Cesar Timo-Iaria (one of the founders of discipline neurophysiology/neurosciences in Brazil) when he was exposed to stereotaxic method and performed several chronic micro and LFP recording electrode implants in animal models to study brain oscillations in sleep and attention. He later attended the University of Washington for graduate school, obtaining a PhD in Physics, an MD, and a second PhD in Neuroscience. After completing his neurosurgery residency at Stanford University in California, he completed fellowships in epilepsy, deep-brain stimulation, and tumor resection in children and adults. Dr. Miller joined the neurosurgery staff at Mayo Clinic in Rochester in 2019. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Miller studies basic human neurophysiology and clinical translation for cybernetics, epilepsy and functional neurosurgery. His group, the Cybernetics and Motor Physiology Laboratory, is focused on the creation of new devices to 1) control cybernetic prostheses, 2) induce brain plasticity after injury, and 3) intervene with distributed circuits in neuropsychiatric disease and movement dysfunction.
